You probably have questions. We’ve got answers.

There is no other device like AIRiWEAR, a personal air sanitizer with UV-C. We want you to feel confident about your purchase, so we have compiled the answers to some common questions.

Why It Works

AIRiWEAR continuously draws in nearby air, passes it through a disinfection chamber of UV-C light and delivers the sanitized air directly to your nose and mouth. Put simply, it destroys airborne viruses and bacteria before you can breathe them in, which decreases your chances of getting sick.

UV-C light is nature’s own germ zapper – a specific wavelength of ultraviolet light that quietly neutralizes pathogens at the genetic level, like it’s been doing the job forever (because it basically has). UV-C blasts the genetic material (DNA and RNA) inside viruses and bacteria, disrupting it so they can’t replicate or cause trouble.

UV-C light has been used to neutralize airborne pathogens in hospitals and research institutions for nearly a century. At 262-265nm it disrupts the genetic material of viruses and bacteria at the molecular level. It's not new technology, it's proven effective for generations.

UV-C light has been around as long as the sun. For decades, UV-C disinfection took the form of big, bulky mercury lamps – fixtures effective in settings like hospitals but impractical for personal, everyday use. Thanks to recent breakthroughs in efficient UV-C LEDs and smart miniaturization, AIRiWEAR was able to put that proven disinfecting power into a safe, comfortable, wearable device.

Science & Efficacy

UV-C light at 262-265nm is effective against a broad spectrum of airborne pathogens including viruses (influenza, coronaviruses, rhinovirus) and bacteria. Because it disrupts genetic material (DNA/RNA) rather than targeting a specific strain, it’s widely effective across many pathogen types.

Yes. AIRiWEAR has been independently tested and validated by ARE Labs and Boston University's National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL). Results: +95% reduction in viable bio-aerosols and +99% inactivation of SARS-CoV-2.

We are working on further testing of AIRiWEAR performance in clinical (vs. lab) environments and will share any new data on our website as it is available.

UVGI stands for Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation, the scientific term for using UV-C light to inactivate microorganisms. It has been used in hospitals, water treatment systems, and air handling units for nearly a century. AirIWear applies UVGI technology in personal, wearable form.

AIRiWEAR vs. Others

No. AIRiWEAR is not an air purifier. It’s an air sanitizer that uses UV-C light to destroy illness-causing microorganisms before you breathe them in.

Air purifiers aim to improve overall air quality by reducing pollutants like dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, and bacteria. Purifiers typically use HEPA filters or ionization to “clean” the air. While purifiers are helpful for many people, they do not destroy bacteria and viruses like AIRiWEAR does.

We have no beef with purifiers, and we’re not claiming total “air superiority.” But AIRiWEAR is designed to the best at one particularly important task: eradicating harmful disease-causing pathogens before you breathe them in.

Your personal breathing zone is dynamic and can be disrupted by movement, conversations, and close encounters. Unlike fixed/room devices, AIRiWEAR stays around your neck to deliver disinfected air straight to your nose and mouth anywhere you go.

Think of it this way: If air were sound, purifiers are like speakers, which may fill a space with music, but allow other noise and echoes to mix in. AIRiWEAR is more like headphones, which deliver clear, noise-cancelled audio straight to your ears.

Safety & Comfort

Yes. The UV-C light inside AIRiWEAR is directed inward into a fully sealed sanitizing chamber – not toward your skin or eyes. You receive zero UV-C exposure.

No. AIRiWEAR does not produce ozone, ionic emissions, or any chemical byproducts. It's independently tested, environmentally clean and airline-safe (unlike many ionic air purifiers that are prohibited on flights due to emissions).

No. AIRiWEAR creates a gentle airflow that won't dry out nasal passages or mucous membranes. We deliberately prioritized keeping those natural immune defenses intact when designing AIRiWEAR.

AIRiWEAR is crafted from hypoallergenic, antimicrobial materials that feel good for all-day wear. We're in the business of making you more comfortable, not less.

Not likely. Unlike some other devices that announce themselves from across the room, AIRiWEAR is low-profile by design. And it’s incredibly quiet. It’s easy to forget you’re wearing it and it’s not likely to attract a lot of attention from others. It looks more like a piece of wearable tech than a bulky medical device.

Product Features & Use

Don’t be surprised if you don’t hear anything or feel a blast of air like a fan. That’s on purpose. AIRiWEAR has a gentle air flow of 7 liters per minute (average adult breathing rate) to prevent drying out your body’s natural defenses. A light indicates when the device is on/working, and you will detect a slight air flow close to the nozzle.

AIRiWEAR features two settings that determine the intensity of the UV-C light chamber. Standard mode is for everyday environments, while high mode is appropriate for elevated-risk scenarios like air travel, crowded transit, healthcare settings or large events. You may switch between the two at any time.

Up to 6 hours of continuous use on a single charge. AIRiWEAR fully recharges via USB-C cable in under 2 hours.

No. AIRiWEAR does not require filters, replacement parts or ongoing maintenance costs. Just recharge it and wear it anywhere, anytime.

Yes. AIRiWEAR has an adjustable nozzle so you can direct clean airflow precisely toward your nose and mouth, custom to your body position.

Yes. AIRiWEAR is airline-safe (no emissions) and unrestricted. Compact and portable with a battery that recharges via standard USB-C charging cable, it was built precisely for the environments where you need it most.
